BEST TAKEAWAYS
For anyone working in corporate…
We work for bosses, not companies.
In sales you are your number (unfortunately).
Build relationships with those outside your purview.
Bring the evidence.
Be a single point of failure.
If your career is going well, don’t get an MBA.
For anyone selling…
You have to love your personal story and be comfortable telling it.
If you don’t love your story, find a different narrative you feel good about.
Write it down, practice it, rehearse it. Because telling it with confidence = charisma.
For creatives…
Having influence is the #1 thing.
Be a creator before an influencer.
Consistency, consistently delivers.
For anyone on a team …
Tom Brady is an individual contributor. Bill Belichick is a manager.
The best managers roll their sleeves up.
For all types of people…
It’s nearly impossible to change someone’s perception of you.
Be a doer.
The 3 L’s: If you’re not learning, laughing, or leaving a mark — reevaluate.
Everything is a relationship.
CORPORATE TRICKSHOTS
Give to Get: When you request a coffee chat, bring something that helps them find value in it too.
Diversify your Relationships: Build relationships that are outside of your purview. Go to lunch with engineering. Coffee chat with compliance. Procure time with procurement.
Be the Sweets Guy: Having your thing at the office (like birthday cupcakes) could get you introduced to the CEO.
FROM THE EPISODE
Nick mentioned Adam Grant’s concept of Pebbling…
Gentoo Penguins beat social media to the trend. The penguins pick up pebbles and carry them to their partner as a way of acknowledging the relationship and saying “hey, I saw this and thought of you.”

BEHIND THE SCENES
Food Edition: To fuel up for this interview, we hit up China Live in San Francisco the night before. So we thought we’d let ya know of the best order there for a party of 4 (according to Nick).
The strategy: Gotta get a mix just like a healthy stock portfolio, can’t over index on just dumplings or just noodles. Gotta have the strategic veggie, carb, protein balance for a healthy ROI (“Return on Ingest-ment”)
Here’s the Best Order:
Chrysanthemum 10-Ingredient Salad,
House Famous Kung Pao “Firecracker” Chicken,
Sichuan “Working Hands” Dumplings & Veggie Potstickers.
Pecking Duck w/ Kumquat Glaze,
Hong Kong Wok-Fried Veggie Egg Noodles,
Sweet & Sour Cauliflower w/ Lychee Poppers &
a basket of scallion bread.
The Takeaway: Over order. 🥡
Tell them TBOY sent you.
Here’s Nick basking in his order.
MAJOR UPDATE
INITIAL BABY OFFERING: Jack & Alex are expecting baby #3! Coming 2025 🍼
And one more thing. Ross’s suit was custom made so there is no link. But we DO HAVE a link to Natalie’s fantastic outfit from the episode.
